How to Enjoy Being Newly Engaged

If getting married is something you’ve dreamed of for a long time, it’s hard to imagine having happier news to share with people than news of your engagement. Your wedding day will be the happiest day of your life, but your engagement could be the most exciting. It’s a time for jubilation and looking forward. The weeks and months ahead will be busy, but they’ll also be full of opportunities to enjoy yourself and forge treasured memories. However, as most of the challenging work won’t get underway until some weeks after the engagement, you may find yourself wondering what you’ll do during the first few weeks of your engagement.

These early weeks should really be about one thing — being happy. You’ve made a huge decision, one that will change your life forever. You should allow yourself time to take stock of your new situation and enjoy sharing your news. In this week’s blog post, we’d like to offer some tips on how you can really enjoy being newly engaged.

Show Off and Be Proud

Once you’ve gotten engaged, it’s time to start sharing the news of your engagement. You may wish to throw an engagement party, giving family and friends the opportunity to share in your good news. Sending out invitations to an engagement party is a good way to make the initial announcement. Once the news has been broken, though, you don’t necessarily need to stop talking about it. If you feel like you’re so happy you could shout it from the rooftops, that’s okay. Don’t be afraid to show off your engagement ring to anyone who will look, and don’t hesitate to tell others how happy you are. This is your news, and you’re allowed to enjoy sharing it with the world. If you meet any begrudgers, ignore them!

Start Planning

Although planning your wedding will be difficult and challenging at times, this will come at a later point. In these early stages, any planning you do should be fun and enjoyable. You still have plenty of time, and your wedding is a blank canvas which you can turn into anything you like. Start a scrapbook, start trawling the web for pictures of anything and everything you like, and just start dreaming up the wedding you want to have. Now is also a good time to start discussing possible honeymoon destinations, which will give you something else to get excited about!

Pamper Yourself

There are many ways of celebrating news of an engagement. As we’ve mentioned, one good way is to have a party and celebrate with your nearest and dearest. Another way is to take some time to yourself and indulge in something you want to do. If there’s an expensive beauty treatment you’ve had your eye on, or even a weekend away at a spa, go ahead and take this opportunity. Things will get hectic in the coming months, so enjoying some quiet relaxation now is a good idea. As you’ve just had some wonderful news, you’ll enjoy it all the more.

Celebrate a Little Too Much

You may find that the urge to go out and tell people of your exciting news over a celebratory glass of wine becomes quite compelling. We all know that it’s important to drink alcohol in moderation, but there are times when a little extra celebration is called for. This is certainly one of those times. As you meet with friends to tell them your good news, you may find that alcohol is featuring in your social life more regularly than usual. That’s okay, for a little while. Don’t worry about it, and enjoy yourself.
