Grooming Tips for Grooms

Marriage is a union between two people, and a celebration of their love for each other. The bridegroom is just as essential to the big day as the bride is. However, while planning your wedding, you may find yourself preoccupied with bridal style and beauty. This is no surprise, of course. Indeed, much of what we’ve written on this blog in the past has focused on these topics. Nevertheless, it’s important not to neglect the topic of grooming for men. After all, why should the burden of looking fabulous fall solely on the bride’s shoulders?

While hair and makeup for men is traditionally more subtle and minimal than for women, it can have a striking effect when done correctly. In many cases, the bridegroom may not be accustomed to spending a great deal of time or effort on personal grooming. However, given the occasion, it should be easy to convince any bridegroom that it’s worth going the extra mile. In this week’s blog post, we’d like to offer some advice and tips for the well-groomed groom.

Start With a Good Haircut

A good haircut is absolutely essential, and the foundation of any man’s look. The right haircut frames the rest of your features and accentuates your most striking characteristics. Many men take a casual approach to having their hair cut, and of course there’s nothing wrong with that. But, if you’re about to be married, being a little more discerning than usual is warranted. Consider visiting a boutique barber salon; you may find yourself paying more than you usually do, but the results will be noticeable. For best results, grow your hair out for a couple of months before the wedding. This will give your barber more to work with when they set about creating a style that suits you. If you belong to one of the more hirsute varieties of bridegroom, make sure to have your beard trimmed at the same time as your hair is cut. If you prefer a clean-shaven look, a hot towel shave on the morning of the wedding will be relaxing as well as looking great.

Don’t Be Afraid of Products

Many grooms will have used cosmetic products very rarely in the past. If this is the case with you, you may not feel confident in your ability to apply them correctly. Remember that using some cosmetics can really help with looking your best on the day, and they’re not as hard to use as they may seem. What’s more, you can achieve excellent results with only a few products, sparingly used. Hairspray and bronzer by themselves can be combined to powerful effect. You should experiment with different products in the weeks before the wedding, so that you can get used to applying them, and also figure out which ones work best for you. Don’t forget to take some practice photographs, so you’ll know how photogenic your new look is.

Treat Yourself to Some Beauty Treatments

There are a number of cosmetic procedures that the bridegroom-to-be should consider. For example, having your teeth whitened professionally can help your photos really sparkle. A facial treatment a couple of weeks before your wedding will help to smooth your complexion and, hopefully, prevent any skin blemishes from appearing. Given the central importance of exchanging rings, your hands will be in the spotlight on the day, so a manicure is something to consider as well. There’s a myriad of cosmetic procedures out there that you might choose to avail of, but these three are the most highly recommended for grooms.

Live Healthily

There’s no substitute for good health. When you take proper care of your body, you’ll vibrate with an ebullient glow that no cosmetics can ever match. In the months before your wedding, take special care to get plenty of exercise, eat healthy food, and drink plenty of water. You should also avoid alcohol and cigarettes. It takes a significant amount of self-discipline to stick to these rules, but the results will shine through in your appearance. And who knows, you may develop some good habits that will serve you well throughout married life!
